Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order review
Exceptional
by Mut4nt_J

In summary Jedi Fallen Order is fantastic. The gameplay is satisfying, the sound design is great, the graphics are aesthetically pleasing and the story is awsome. There a few negatives but they are pretty relevant within this amazing game.

The gameplay, in sumary is extremely satisfying. There are a few issues where it is buggy, resulting in falling through the map occasionally and frame rates droppping when the game renders but these are minor issues overall and can be easily overlooked especially when the game recieves its patch. It is significantly more difficult than most other star wars titles. That can mainly be put down to the combat system and is definitely not a problem. This game is not a hack and slash like the compared Force Unleashed series. The combat system is designed around patience and counter attacks, not being aggressive and reckless which I believe reflects the story in itself as the main character Cal constantly questions the consequences of his decisions in the story. The game rewards you for taking your time and thinking your way around problems, especially when exploring as you can quickly acquire higher force and health quantities if you look around planets properly. Although this is not necessary to beat the game it makes it a lot easier to complete with the upgrades recieved from exploring. You collect powers as you progress through the story and re-build Cal's connection to the force which then allows you to further explore planets you have previously visited which adds to the replayability. It is extremely replayable as you want to go back to the planets you visited to collect everything from the lightsaber customization to the ponchos and ship customization. The customization system isn't the best but it offers a great deal of options, I don't have a problem with not being able to make your own character because this game primarily tells Cal's story, a REAL story with REAL people. That is what I really want to emphasise with this review.

The story moves at a brisk yet REAL pace, everything that happens does so in a realistic time frame. What I mean to say is that most star wars content we recieve including force wielders never tells a human and satisfying story, this game changes that massively. The story feels human, all characters feel real and each of them have their scars and traumas but continue on with their journies anyway. Even the main companion BD-1 feels like he is real, all of these characters have flaws, they all have something they need to face; they all do so in this story and it results in a powerful and REAL story. The ending is satisfying and completely makes sense for these characters and their arc's. This is a very real star wars story and I think has shone light on what stories star wars is capable of. You don't see a Jedi slash his way through everything, you see a frightened and traumatised man face his fears to become something great and constantly question if what he is doing is right. This isn't just a story about a Jedi and his crew, this is a story about a man becoming a Jedi, earning that title, seeing the mental barriers along the way and learning to cope with his problems to do everything that he does in the story. This is a redmeption and development story, I love every character involved in this story. You see optimism, corruption and genuine emotional complexity in all characters which is furthered by the great voice acting and lip syncing. Overall I think that this game is incredible and is necessary to play at least once, to watch the legacy of a hero develop.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a decent game, but sorely lacking in a few areas.  Unfortunately, it’s very glitchy and buggy.  I had the game crash several times, including during boss fights.   In  addition, the story is lacking.  You never believe in the camaraderie between the characters,  and they just didn’t do much (with the exception of one character towards the end.). The ending was also a huge let down.

Now that I’ve gone through the bad, the action is great.  It’s very much Uncharted meets Dark Souls.  The game is huge, narrative driven action pieces tied together through close quarters.  The RPG-lite elements were good, always putting new moves, more life or more power within arms reach.  The various planets you explore present a sort of faux-open world, but they are actually quite linear.  They look great, and the exploration is fun.

Part of what feels like a let down is that so much of the story seems to happen through reading material on the pause menus.  It would have been nice to experience a bit more.
Fallen Order is the first full game I've played on the Stadia platform, and it was fantastic (despite several freezes requiring a browser restart). I enjoyed the progression of the main character Cal from an uncertain acolyte to a full-fledged Jedi capable of decimating all the stormtroopers the empire can muster.
If you like Star Wars, metroidvanias and Souls-games, you’ll like Jedi Fallen Order too.
good game who has reieve love fromm their dev but huge flow on the combat system and boss except the ' animals boss are visualy cool but gameplay side it s suck since we can t cancel animation but boss can have 0 stun from your attack
Gamepass.

Glad I waited to play this. I really enjoyed my single playthrough, managed to 100% without having to replay anything, but I think if I paid full price (or anything >$40) I would have come away slightly disappointed.
I know it's not the most original  game, but it was really fun and didn't get stale throughout

Star Wars Jedi Fallen order is a nice journey into the Star Wars galaxy. It is a bit strange mix of a meticulous souls-like combat and pure action bits that I enjoyed the most. For my taste, the combat system was too dry for a game about a Jedi, but the ending and story is interesting enough to keep you going.
I will probably never play it again it though.

P.S. I have not encountered a bug I couldn't fix that would make my progression impossible, however they are present in the game, so be prepared.

Wish there was a bit more in terms of secrets. That is, lightsaber colors are found very late game and NG+ only unlock one more lightsaber color and one more outfit. I played this in the second hardest difficulty and IMO it's everything I wish every other Souls game was - actually make that world design purposeful. Fallen Order is one of the best 3D Metroidvanias because of it and shows how to properly do a 3D Metroidvania. Only thing I expected from a Star Wars lore perspective, save "realistic" lightsaber physics, is more clone troopers.

Lots of directions they could take a sequel, which I'm looking forward to. More fighting styles, new force powers, actual dual-wielding, new playable characters, other types of lightsaber from the EU, more optional boss fights. They went pretty ham and I'm hoping they take it up another level.
Scary that Star Wars solo games are good
i enjoyed it a lot, it was great

map desing could be improved

combat mechanics were good but lack of combos in the majority of the game left a bad taste. even with extra abilities i still didn't felt like comboing any meaningful attack

The finest job done here melding the worlds of the Clone Wars and the Age of Rebellion that we’ve seen in Star Wars media. Also, it’s super fun and challenging to play, and I got decently invested in the story. I’d happily play the sequel.
