This is how you do a remake the right way. Immaculately designed environments with brilliant ui choices (I love the map and how it shows you exactly what rooms you have cleared and where items are, saving you the hassle of having to run around aimlessly looking for ammo and key items). The mood is perfect, with the lighting really creating a sense of dread as you wander down dark hallways or rush through the mansion trying to escape the Tyrant.
Speaking of Tyrant, the way they introduce him is perfect. Letting you learn the layout of the map before throwing your sense of comfort out the window by introducing someone who will chase you down is a good way to shake things up, and I was genuinely scared of mr x througout the game.
I have been a resident evil fan my whole life, and I love the last few games they have put out. Happy to see them pulling out of their nose dive after the atrocity that was resi 6.

It's a good game, but 2 campaigns are not needed. The differences are too small even for 2nd story. Also sewers level is quite moderate attractions nowadays, almost dropped the game there. Graphics is exceptionally good - I can understand why people who played the original 20 years can experience deeper nostalgia feelings. Atmosphere, sound, shooting & puzzles are pleasing, but could be shorter or less motivating for 2nd useless walkthrough
8.5/10 if you do 1 walkthrough (I would say Leon's story is better)
7/10 if you go for both campaigns

This game is fabulous, man. I just beat it with my gf - was her first look at the franchise. I consolidated some thoughts I had about it previously and introduced her to the game. There are so many things to talk about...
First of all, the gameplay. The level design here is impeccable in a way that, when you start the game, you don't realize that you will be familiarized so much with it. That's what happened with my gf. She complained about the size of it, saying that was too much to learn. Eventually, she was running around figuring out things by herself and enjoying it. besides, when the game requires exploration in order to progress and outplay the enemies, it becomes natural. And there's Mr. X also... man, she was terrified. Even I, whose already beaten the game, was anxious about his steps.
The plot involves you fast. The premise itself is crazy. You wanna know what is happening impersonally when you arrive at the police station, but how much more you are deep into that shit, the more you wanna know since a lot of things are at stake. Also, the graphics are so good here. The characters aren't unidimensional, and the facial expressions help them so much to transmit it. Talking about that subject, we can not forget about the gore. Jess, it's crazy good and satisfying.
At least, but not less important, the audio design. For some reason, I decided to put my soundbar on my desktop. I put the bar below the monitor and the subwoofer below the desk and man... We could feel the pressure of the flame thrower, every shot with the sub and the steps of Mr. X were even more terrifying. I couldn't recommend it more.
Right now, we're starting RE 3.

The interaction between resource management, smart puzzles, and genuinely tense action makes this a masterpiece. It is balanced so finely that it's just such a joy and terror to play. And the level design that backs over itself with puzzles opening shortcuts is incredible. A must play!

I kept dying and getting frustrated but I stayed up all night playing to completion so clearly it did something right.
Edit: Replayed again and wow it really is damn good. This is a game that definitely warrants multiple playthroughs.

Feels like these REmakes are in a feedback loop with The Last of Us. Resident Evil is obviously a huge influence on TLOU, and the TLOU became a huge influence on both this game. The combat feels like a really nice mix of RE4 and TLOU gunplay, but far more polished than either of those. It feels great. Maybe this game will end up influencing TLOU 2, who knows.
The puzzles are challenging and numerous. You are thrown right in and you kind of have to figure it out yourself. I love how the map continues to build on top of itself throughout the game. I know these aren’t technically Metroidvanias but it does kind of feel like one in some ways.
Both characters are fun to play as. I did Claire A Leon B, which I didn’t regret. Claire is more fun to me, but Ada was pretty cool in the Leon section.
Mr. Tyrant rocked. Such a cool design and such an intimidating enemy.
