Marvel's Spider-Man review
Exceptional
by Ethan Loertscher

This is the most addicting game I've ever played, in that when I'm swinging around New York deciding what to do next, I literally. Can't. Stop. Swinging. I'll make it to my marker and my brain wants to stop but my fingers just won't allow it, I need to be swinging around this city, web-zipping to the top of water towers, dive bombing off the tallest skyscraper I can find in the vicinity, and running along the sides of buildings and quickly jumping between one and another in a slim alleyway. If Insomniac put out this game with nothing to do in the world except swinging around endlessly, I would have been very very satisfied. Lucky for us they populated the world with heaps of crimes to stop, pigeons to round up, and landmarks to take selfies in front of AND a fully-realized fantastic new Spider-Man story with a great Doc Ock origin story. Insomniacs' Peter Parker is the definitive one (I still love you Tobey Maguire, I love you so much...) and every moment he was talking I was into it. The voice acting is so good and the facial animations are incredible, mixing to make a mesmerizing, addicting, brand new Spider-Man story. And the late-game world switch up when you suddenly get all new crimes everywhere and new bases to take down and a beautiful terrifying broken New York to swing around?? God Insomniac, the world doesn't deserve this. My only complaints with the game are it's length, I platinumed the whole thing in less than 40 hours (my first platinum ever mind you, thank you Insomniac for making this pretty damn achievable), and how easy it is on normal difficulty. I never had issues with any boss fights and hardly any issues with bases, apart from the Sable ones which were actually a good challenge. I know I could have just upped the difficulty, and I will on my next playthrough, but I feel like "normal" difficulty should challenge the player a bit more. Apart from that Insomniac knocked this one out of the park.

Great review! I do recommended playing on hard next time, adds so much depth to the already great combat.

Loved this game! The swinging and play was so great that the fast travel system was almost not needed as it was too much fun traversing New York! The bosses were perfect yet surprised to see so many. It is a joy to come back to!

"This game makes you feel like Spider-Man"

But really, this game is awesome. The combat is fast and fluid, the story and characters are well realized, and this game just emphasis FUN. Some of the side content could be a little tedious to complete but other than that it's a must play for any lovers of great single player games. 9/10.

Its great, Marvel showed that they too can make a good superhero game up there with DC's Arkham franchise, now whilst they have taken strong influence by them, I'm glad they did as it works well with the web slinging and the way Spider-Man fights is shown brilliantly here.

I mean like...
The swinging tho, so weighty...

Insomniac has never made a bad game
The music loops so much with the same leitmotif that it'll remind you of Mercenaries, MJ is a total female dog but you're supposed to like her and her terrible mission parts, ALL the good guys seem like they either judgmentally quip or cry like the game is set in Portland, the vast majority of the game feels like you're repeating the same mission which doesn't help when the writing is boring and I learned very quickly to associate Yuri Lowenthal's voice with a sharp pain in my temporal lobe... but it's still fun in short bursts, looks nice and has an easy platinum trophy so, yeah, it's cheap now, why not? If you liked Prototype and think Spider-Man is neat, you'll probably love it. If bad voice acting makes you want to kill yourself and then kill yourself again in the afterlife, mute the TV whenever Screwball shows up. Imagine a mom Karen trying to be funny by dropping air mics and saying "boom" but much, much, much louder.
The game is well paced and has some epic moments, but I didn't enjoy it for a significant chunk of my playthrough because of how slowly the story progressed. Still, everything gameplay vise is made really good and the overall experience is pretty nice.
Probably the best superhero game I've played. Webswinging is on point and the story is actually engaging

Of course it’s dope. I’ll be playing until I get MM.
An excellent PlayStation exclusive.  Spider-Man takes the Arkham formula, and makes just enough tweaks to really be its own game.  What really makes the game shine is it’s commitment to the characters of both Peter Parker AND Spider-Man, and the fluidity of movement during web-slinging and action.  It just...feels...right.

Great voice acting, bosses and mechanics are amazing, and it has a compelling story with and an emotional ending.
