Guacamelee 2 is a 2d retro inspired Metroidvania game and it's a second installment in the series. What I loved in both games, that they don't trap themselves in a retro limbo and add something new and fresh from our times.
First of all, it's artwork looks really beautiful, especially in action, the soundtrack is varied and interesting, the combat is fast and fluid. You have various moves and ability to shift perspectives which is necessary to fight some monster and traverse some of the puzzles. But the game is designed in such a perfect way that it teaches each new move and mechanic over the course of the game without the player noticing it. Guacamelee 2 improved in all the aspects from its predecessor, its puzzles are better and more varied, the combat is even more enhanced and the story and the jokes are better written.
It's a perfect example of the retro game formula mixed with a modern twist without changing its core, but at the same time without trapping itself in only old ideas. I loved it!

A metroidvania, with well implemented platforming and combat. It's not that much different from the first game, but there are some new skills to use. The difficulty was well balanced, for me at least. I died a lot during the optional side paths, but managed to always finish them with a reasonable amount of attempts. All those upgrades made me feel pretty powerful for the final levels which was a nice feeling, all that practice paying off. The story is very shallow and the humor not for everyone.

Favorite Thing: The combat's (still) really fun.
Least Favorite Thing: I *hate* the realm switching mechanic. They leaned on it way too heavy and it's no fun.
Date Completed: 2019-06-25
Playtime: 10.5h
Enjoyment: 5/10
Recommendation: Stick with your pleasant memories of the first Guacamelee and forget about this one.

Just as well as the 1, it takes over the mechanics of the previous game while adding new, graphically the game is a slap while remaining in the same colorful universe of the 1, see can buy the eyes closed

Boost and big recommendation for this game, which really deserves to be played after if you have not made the first and it is cheaper, do rather the first. But still what mastery in this game: it is funny, perfectly realized and especially it renews itself well: Super level design. the fight is a real pleasure and the difficulty is perfectly dosed. In addition are really delusional moments (chicken HQ illuminatis) only faults: it is a little too linear and there are no duplicates

I am a fan of Guacamelee and I was looking forward to this second Opus.
I just finished the first my (Jade I do not know what) and I am very very mixed!
The musical atmosphere that was the big highlight of the 1 is not there and I feel like playing again at 1...
Ah no pardon, there are novelty (Piqué at games like ORI and the blind forest, teslagrad, slip,... I look forward to seeing the next references/plagiarism).
The RPG side with the skill tree leaves me completely indiferent.
Anyway, I'll go on and finish it to see if I change my mind but for now I think it's not that at all!

I bought this game without really knowing the first guacamelee, and honestly it's a super surprise, the gameplay is fluid, especially during the fights, there are really interesting stages of platformer especially the one where one has to change between the dimension of the dead and the living and those or this change is done automatically, unfortunately it's moments are quite few compared to the time that one spends to explore from Mexivers.
I recommend Guacamelee 2 If you are a fan of Metroid like, exploration is pleasant, there is a real evolution in the gameplay over the game, humor is well managed and does not take too much space, some references to other games indep that always make fun ect...
On the other hand I found the boss fights quite fordable, their difficulty is quite low and they are few, especially the end boss that I finished the first shot and that is frankly a big bag of useless PV that only serves the narration (which on the other hand it is very cool and very inspired).
In short, if you like the Metroid like and you are ready to spend a dozen hours on a nice and refreshing game (especially at the level of the graphics) then I recommend it, but if you are looking for a big game with a lot of challenge phases of gameplay almost impossible to realize and gigantic bosses that will take you hours to beat, so go your way.
