About

A darkness has fallen over the town of Lorwich. Monstrous hordes emerge from beyond the realm of nightmares to sow chaos on the land. As one of four heroes, you must battle the minions of the old ones with the force of arms, and the power of illumination.

Inspired by the writing of H.P. Lovecraft, Atari’s Alone in the Dark series is recognized as the “Father of the Survival Horror Genre”. Alone in the Dark: Illumination explores this dark legacy in a terrifying action-horror experience.

Battle through dynamic environments filled with bloodthirsty beasts. Build your party as you rescue your companions including the Witch, Engineer and Priest, each with a unique set of special abilities and weapons.

Danger lurks in every shadow. While your friends may help, at the end of the night you are always Alone in the Dark.

  • Four Unique Heroes: The Hunter, the Witch, the Priest and the Engineer each offer unique gameplay experiences with distinctive weapons, skills and powers to unlock.
  • Play as a Team or Alone in the Dark: Play with all four characters in co-operative multiplayer mode, build smaller teams for greater challenge, or face the darkness alone.
  • Diverse Environments: Four campaigns with multiple levels take players through the blasted landscape of Lorwich, and deep below to unearth the mysteries of this forsaken township.
  • Eldritch Horror: Inspired by the writing of H.P. Lovecraft, beings from beyond madness, including Roof Walkers, Shapes and Spawns will haunt your nightmares.
  • Dynamic Environments: Interact with dynamic environmental puzzles to change the structure of the map and advance your quest.
  • Harness the Power of Illumination: Light up maps to create safe zones, and damage your foes.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination reviews and comments

So Incredibly bad that I could start crying. The MP Servers are already dead 1 Week after Launch or they don't work, the Weapon sounds are by Far the most horrible thing I've heard in ages (As if you're using Softair weapons) and the Gameplay is just incredibly horribly bad. When Survival Horror announced, the Thing just works together the worst of All sorts of Shooters and Horror Games and mixes it into a huge Pile of Siness. You start with an ultra-long Wall of Text is simply clapped into the World without a Synchro without narrative and just gets without Explanation The Goal to run Somewhere and that wars. You then look for the right Way there and meanwhile the poorly designed opponents simply spawn right in front of you or fall out of the Sky really great. In order to weaken the Opponents, you have to press Light switches and then lure the Monsters into the light, where you transport them moderately back to the Realm of the dead with your Softair weapon pew pew. You walk through empty Houses (but crammed with Medi Packs and Items that are not usable for your own Class), poorly designed Streets and you stand in front of tens of Gates and Doors that you either can't open or open yourself as soon as a "spawn wave" Is over. Meanwhile, the just paired Opponents get stuck on Door frames or other Monsters or stand with 10 Men stupid in front of a locked Gate without moving (Hey them don't clip through ... yay). Then the ridiculous German Translation gives you the rest. For example, in order to save the Resolution Change, you have to press ("Apply Resolution settings") and this is still the most harmless ... To this end, one should note that the Release should actually take place at the End of 2014, but I do not want to know what would have come out of it if I look at the current Product. I'll top it up in Points: Positive:-4 interesting-looking characters selectable (different Classes)-A few nice Lighting effects-It has Steam Cards (Which are probably worth more than the Game itself) ... Cons:-... But which unfortunately are also buoyed and do not drop properly-In single Player there are no Bots to Help although designed for 4 Players-No Synchro-virtually non-existent and yet just brainless story-Terrible and incongruous Weapon sounds-Stupid opponents AI that runs silly on one and gets stuck everywhere and gets stuck-Terrible Opponent design (and only felt 2 Opponent types in Green and Yellow glowing)-Stupid constantly Repetitive Gameplay (Run from A to B to fetch a Cable)-Terrible interjected Level Design-Repeat sound Effects-Enemies simply fall to the Ground and disappear completely without Animation-No Card or other Help to get to the chosen object. -Loading Times of the already small Levels eternally long-start time until you reach the Main menu is underground-Incredibly bad and Error-prone German Translation (There is ONLY text and not even much of it) Such as: "Do they need electrocable" if You stand in front of a Generator or "Gates are locked" when you stand in front of a locked Door. From the Settings just became Settings It is by Far the worst Game I have touched in Years and has absolutely NOTHING in common with Alone in The Dark Except the charm design and the Name. Just sad as here a Name is Abused and an earlier good Horror Series is worn to dig. A larger Rape of well-known Franchises is hardly possible anymore (Rollercoaster Tycoon Comes close) just sad what became of Atari. Do you like one and leave the Dirt lying, I got habs practically gifted but the Thing is not even worth €1 and even with Bad Rats you would have more Fun.
