About

A suspicious suicide. A chilling curse. A malevolent power. Finally, a wicked dark secret. This is Derceto, a legendary Louisiana mansion where, against your better judgment, you're drawn into a world of shadows to explore the darker side of Jeremy Hartwood's imagination.

Despite a paralyzing sense of personal danger, your quest for truth drives you to investigate the old house. But, you didn't know that, by entering Derceto, you'll be plunged into the daily nightmare that was Jeremy Hartwood's life. You weren't prepared for the torturous howls that resound from deep within its halls. You didn’t foresee the shadowy corridors that seemingly have no end. You couldn't anticipate the brooding, gloom-filled rooms, the pervasive weight of dread, the heavy sense of evil that gills the atmosphere and the very house itself.

Had you known, you might have refused this task. But alas, you accepted, and now you must make your way through this spine-tingling adventure alone... and in the dark.

Alone in the Dark 1 reviews and comments

Great video game. It Was One of the first video games I played in my old 486, so when I saw the pack I could not resist acquiring the three alone in the dark. The game is considered the first survival horror, and if I remember wrong the first or the first 3D games (polygons very large but was 1992). The story is played with two characters Emily Hartwood or Edward Carbin. The Adventure and skills in both characters is exactly the same, only varying a small phrase when looking at a picture in the Ghost room. The story takes place in a haunted house, a Louisiana mansion called Decerto. The last owner the painter Hartwood has committed suicide, so depending on the character (Emily wants to know the reasons why he committed suicide his uncle, and Carbin has been hired by an antique dealer to go to see an old piano) has some reasons to visit the house. The Mansion is full of demonic creatures, creatures from the Myth of Cthulhu (Lovercraft), and zombies. Although with a poor artificial intelligence and easy to solve the action part (it is a pioneer game also should not ask for more). As Adventure The game has many factors of graphic adventure, you have to solve certain puzzles and maybe this may be the problem of rookie, because to reach the end you need some things if not the adventure can not be solved. Practically 99% of the game there are numerous tracks in letters, books and diaries that are found, from how to kill the main enemies easily, solving puzzles, etc... Well once talked about what is the game now we go to the technical part: The game although on Steam says it is only in English, is uncertain, can be autotranslate, I put a post about it (Hare a guide), so it would be with subtitles in Spanish (there are only To know how to use the installer), and voices (the only voices are reading books) in English. The game is not a Port of the old version, is directly the old version of CD (which is the same as the floppy diskette with the difference of including voices when reading books, in addition to the audio in the version floppy disk was MIDI and in this version is orchestral). As They have made this version work, have used DOSBox an emulator of two with what allows to play the adventure, is something that I have seen in several games (many of Infogrames by the way as the shadow of the comet) and honestly is the most negative point , because in my case I have bought more for the comfort of steam because I had it in physical version. So if anyone thinks it's a port it's not like that. The being a port brings a small disadvantage, you can not set up for the game Steam command, in my case I had to create a desktop configuration for my steam controller dedicated to this game (this problem I have found in game s more recent as the P Rince of Persia). Not that it is a serious problem but for those who have the steam controller adds more work and forces us to have extra desktop configurations. The game in case it is played directly with keyboard and without mouse. The most difficult Thing is to run the character (already in case on keyboard is difficult because you have to press 3 times the key forward, and the trigger of steam controller takes a while to catch the trick). For the rest is a totally recommended game, both for which you like to remember the past abandonware or for those who want to try an ancient and interesting survival.
