Day Of Defeat: Source is a multiplayer class-based FPS developed by Valve. The game is a remake of Day Of Defeat which was released on GoldSrc engine.

Set in 1944, the game focuses on the European war theatre and two teams: U.S. Army and Vermacht. Each team has 6 player classes: Rifleman, Assault, Support, Machinegunner, and Rocket.

DoD: Source features two game modes: territorial control and detonation. In territorial control, players fight over several strategic points on the map. In detonation, however, the objective is to detonate two bombs on every checkpoint of the opposing team.

The game features 8 official maps, but there are a lot of custom maps designed by the community members.

Day Of Defeat: Source served as a testing ground for Valve as it was the first Source-based game that featured in-engine High Dynamic Range. Several post-processing effects were added by Valve after the release of the game in order to make it look more like a 1940s era movie. The effects include film grain, color correction and depth of field.

Day of Defeat: Source reviews and comments

I love this game for its minimalism.
There are really no powerful explosions and action like in «Call of Duty». It's a completely different genre.
It's a leisurely progression from point to point with shootouts in alleys, fighting for every meter of territory. A game of the golden age of the «Source» engine popularity, which still looks decent.

For one bright, shining moment this was simply a great time. It had unique character classes the served specific purposes in gameplay and required different playstyles, all while encouraging good teamwork.

DoD: S is still a lot of Fun just unfortunately nobody is really zocking anymore which mostly switched to CoD5 at That time. But there is very little Cheater there. Graphically, of course, it is not the Force and I myself would rather play other Shooters. Nevertheless, it is also a kind of Cult and from time to time you can reinstall it again.

Product received for free day of defeat: source gave me inspiration. Indeed, if I were gifted on SFM, I would make a story based on the second world war. Frankly, one of the best game of valve, the physics are fluid and easy to take in hand, even if the handling of weapons is rather difficult at first, as well as the difficulty to stay alive more than 5 mins and that successes are also difficult to obtain. In short, an excellent game unfortunately very underestimated/forgotten that deserves a DoD 2 or a sequel. Kids play call of duty teens play battlefield legends play day of defeat

Day of Defeat is a super game that unfortunately knows no pimmel:( It great to play with some homeboys;) (But I prefer to play aleine;)) WHAT IT NOT GIBT!!! : 1.) Killstreaks 2nd) HP RE-Gen 3.) Unfair Weapons 3rd) Children What there is: Couple individual classes like E.G. Sniper or (as I nene) MP-GUY. Please note!!! There's frendly fire (but no one takes advantage of that) and unfortunately a VERY VERY WEY community (no flammers but all spam the chat VOLL who one starts with!) And please don't think you go into the game and kill everyone with your pistole;) You are dead too quickly for that.

When I switched from Counter-Strike: Source in January 2006, I was a bit skeptical about Day of Defeat: Source being able to meet my Expectations. So far I have been a pure Counter-Strike Player and that since the Beta Version. The first Part of DoD, had honestly left no Traces of Interest with me. Amazingly quickly I found myself right in the new Part of DoD and that demanded more! Tactical Approaches, such as through Flags that can only be Conquered for two, I really liked from the Beginning (must say that my first Card I played was dod _ avalanche, one of the best Cards ever in this Game!) Day of Defeat: Source is set in World War II, that is, between 1939 and 1945. On 9 different Maps, up to 32 Players can fight each other, promising a hellish fun Factor. My Favorite Game mode is mentioned by the way "Capture the Flag." The Game itself is not a Level System à la Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but you can unlock interesting Achievements here. Occasionally I play a few More rounds with Friends, you always find something to get upset about and if not, it's just about the MG shooter in your own Team.
