This epochal Masterpiece is recommended to anyone looking for a Game of real Depth. "Distant Worlds" is a space opera that is second to none and where the Player can write his own Story.
Graphics, Animation & Sound 6.5/10 The only Weak point of "Distant Worlds" is the somewhat unspectacularly held 2D graphics. A graphic Firework is not unleashed here. Real Strategists, though, shouldn't be swayed by such a Trifle. The Graphics fulfill their Purpose and the Game captivates you so quickly that the Optics become a Side issue. The Soundscape and Effects are fine and the Background Music varied and above average, even if the musical Accompaniment is usually switched off in such Games.
Control & Interface 7.5/10 The Interface is already fine for such a complex Game. Once the first Shock has been overcome, the Operation is quickly out. Somewhat fiddly, I found the Navigation on the Map if I wanted to zoom quickly to another Point in the Galaxy. More of a small Obstacle and not disruptive the Flow of the Game. However, the Controls and Buttons could well be a little larger. The Resolution of "Distant Worlds" is not adjustable in the Game, but is based on the Desktop Resolution. Since my Desktop Resolution is set to 1920 x 1080, the Interface seemed a bit small. But I was too Faul to change this especially for the Game and with a 27 "Monitor you can still see quite passable.
Atmosphere 9/10 The Universe is alive and one Identifies very quickly with one's Empire. Another Plus is the Fact that pretty much everything is editable. Starting with the Names of the Ship Classes, the Names of the Planets and Solar Systems or the Characters. The Subplots are interesting and you constantly wonder where the Journey is headed. It would still be nice if the Events were accompanied by small Films, rather than just plain Text Windows or you could make a little visual Flyover over your Colonies.
Match Size 10 (12)/10 Ten Points are, in Principle, too few. The Settings And associated Long-term Motivation are considerable. To all this there was a fully functional Editor with the Add-Ons. All in all, the Scope of the Game is so above average that I give two Extra Points here.
Artificial Intelligence 8/10 Artificial Intelligence does its Thing quite well. During my War, my most hard-losing Opponent annoyed me by simply not putting his Fleets to Fight unless I attacked targets important To him-such as his Colonies. He even blew up some Conveyor facilities deep in my Room, so I had to constantly pull off a not insignificant Number of Ships for Guarding Services. However, as far as the Control of one's own Empire is concerned, some Things should be taken into your Own hands.
