About

Hearts of Iron III is a global wargame strategy centered around controlling units on a large scale —nations, countries and so on. This is the third title of the four-installment-long series.

Plot

The narrative builds around the international geopolitics during 1936-1948 years. The events, however, may deviate from the original course of history because the player is the one that makes decisions which alter the progression of the history. The title is marked as very high-to-enter — the tutorials are long in it, and the variety of intersection is hard to measure. So, the high level of immersion is noted while following the historical events from behind the screen. There are, however, some maps problem with the states' territories as they are depicted not as exactly historically accurate.

Gameplay

The player is set with the goal to overcome the World War II and given any nation to get over it. The further choice is yours: playing for the neutral states is also allowed so one may not engage in military actions whatsoever. However, the game features joining forces with one of three fractions: Axis, Comintern, and Allies. The chances to join one of the groups increase with similarities in ideologies and actions toward the international alliances.

Hearts of Iron III reviews and comments

If you come from Hearts of Iron IV and are disappointed that every Round plays the same and wants to draw More than just Arrows from A to B, you should definitely look at HOI III, because here almost everything is ten times so complex. Every little Detail can be adjusted over the REAL Aging UI. Although some Points such as the Replenishment or the immense Technology Tree will probably bring you to Despair first, it is a thousand times more interesting in the Long run than without and increases the Replay value enormously. If you have any other Crashes with crashes from time to time, especially in the otherwise very exciting Multiplayer, you should definitely test the Game. Little Warning, Headphones start the first Time or set down, the Theme Music may otherwise be the last you will ever hear ...

The Game is beautiful. It'S a lot of Fun. (More with the DLC Thier Finest Hour and the other DLCs you need) The Game is also largely based on the Historical Obstacle. And kept very realistic (E.g. with the Army printing (Where The DLCs simplify a lot.) The Map is very well done. The Technologies are manageable. I only have to give two "Meh ..." s: On the one hand, that you get Difficulties as a Hungarian (even with the DLCs) if you want to get Austria and the Sudetenland ahead of Germany. When I tried to do this, I was about to blow out a War against Austria, but there was Germany faster (through Event-connection). In the case of the Czech Republic, it was also like this: 1 Point less Neutrality and I could have prevented the Munich Agreement. On the other Hand, in the Standard game (without DLCs) after the war (e.g. with me-Hungary versus Czech-victory of mine) It is difficult to pull over which Units belong to which HQ. Luckily, one of the DLCs-Semper Fi, Thier Finest Hour and For the Motherland-helps.

In the face of a Heart of Iron 4, which just doesn't want to get ANY better, I once again unpacked HOI3. (Please don't wonder about my Playtime, hadn't played over Steam at The time.) Got the Black ICE Mod on it and I have to say, the Game is just every Global strategist's wet Dream. I'm writing this Review because I want to break a Lance for this Game. I know what Anger is coming up with Paradox here at Steam at The Moment. Just like most of me here, on the Pointer. At HOI4, it's especially outrageous, as this Game is just unplayable. Paradoxically, content that provides some chic Images and one or the other Focustree can be paid dearly. But that, and much more, also delivers dei Community in the Form of Mods. I think it is good and also right to rate negatively in Protest here in order to give this paradoxical Aroma a Shot in front of the Bow. Hearts of Iron 3, though, is still an Old-school Game. It's from a Time when this Company has turned to the Nerds of the Scene and you didn't feel like a Cow that was milked. DLCs are no longer to be feared here and with the Black ICE Mod the Game is, in my Opinion, the Best there is for Money to buy on the Topic of Global Strategy and World War II.
