Marvel's Spider-Man reviews

Literally the best game I've played in 5+ years. Couldn't stop playing.. I completed the game 100% within 20 hours. Tripped acid and swung around the city for at least 6 of those. 10/10, incredible gameplay.
This is the most addicting game I've ever played, in that when I'm swinging around New York deciding what to do next, I literally. Can't. Stop. Swinging. I'll make it to my marker and my brain wants to stop but my fingers just won't allow it, I need to be swinging around this city, web-zipping to the top of water towers, dive bombing off the tallest skyscraper I can find in the vicinity, and running along the sides of buildings and quickly jumping between one and another in a slim alleyway. If Insomniac put out this game with nothing to do in the world except swinging around endlessly, I would have been very very satisfied. Lucky for us they populated the world with heaps of crimes to stop, pigeons to round up, and landmarks to take selfies in front of AND a fully-realized fantastic new Spider-Man story with a great Doc Ock origin story. Insomniacs' Peter Parker is the definitive one (I still love you Tobey Maguire, I love you so much...) and every moment he was talking I was into it. The voice acting is so good and the facial animations are incredible, mixing to make a mesmerizing, addicting, brand new Spider-Man story. And the late-game world switch up when you suddenly get all new crimes everywhere and new bases to take down and a beautiful terrifying broken New York to swing around?? God Insomniac, the world doesn't deserve this. My only complaints with the game are it's length, I platinumed the whole thing in less than 40 hours (my first platinum ever mind you, thank you Insomniac for making this pretty damn achievable), and how easy it is on normal difficulty. I never had issues with any boss fights and hardly any issues with bases, apart from the Sable ones which were actually a good challenge. I know I could have just upped the difficulty, and I will on my next playthrough, but I feel like "normal" difficulty should challenge the player a bit more. Apart from that Insomniac knocked this one out of the park.

Haiku Review: Swinging is awesome / There's not much to dislike / A real tour de force
Favorite Thing: Web slinging is definitely the most enjoyable method of travel I've come across in any game.
Least Favorite Thing: The MJ/Miles sneaking sequences were a bore.

I was a bit suspicious till %20 of the game progress but after that, it became more interesting and entertaining. Most of the missions and moves reminded me Arkham series but I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's awesome for me as an Arkham fan. Being Spider-man and saving the city was awesome. Still playing for %100 and all the trophies. Also waiting for the 3rd DLC of the game. First 2 was also amazing. Already waiting for the second game from Insomniac. Yes, they couldn't win GOTY but they won my heart. Well played Insomniac!

First, let me make this clear. If you're a fan of Spider–Man this game is definitely for you, no matter what earlier relationships with games you've had. It's the best one in the series by far, also truly immersible and easy to pick up. Just stop reading and go play it!

For everyone else I must say, that it's a good game. High production values, good writing, interesting story and flawless navigation and combat systems make it into a gem of licensed super-hero games. Hardcore gamers, however, will find it lacking, due to several reasons:

• It's an open world game that can be cleared to 100% completion within 15-20 hours. So it's rather short, probably intending to cash in on sweet, sweet DLC deals.
• It's open world mechanics lack innovation. Even though everything works just fine, every activity (with some minor exceptions) is seen somewhere else, turned into a joke somewhere else, or are already gone and replaced by something new in the latest AAA open world titles. In that regard, Spider-Man is awfully classic (Do story mission, find a tower, populate the map with secondaries and pick up's, clear the map, rinse, repeat). In this case, most secondary activities are locked behind a story, to force players out and about, yet some things still get kind of repetitive. Not annoying, but that's mostly due to overall play time, again it's rather short, especially considering large, beautiful and in many ways amazing city that we're given to roam freely.
• Without Spider-Man as a character, game would barely stand–out from a shadow of latest open world/action games, yet some things remain true in any case: It's sticking to fingers, extreme fun to play (explore and combat both), well written and a bit unexpected from time to time. The game in many ways feels kind of reminiscent of Infamous 2, even hero characters are somewhat lookalike and for those not really attached to Spidey guy, I'd even say that Infamous was way better, or at least exploited city gameplay better.

I really loved token system economy for character upgrades, suit selection (Spoiler alert: I added a picture of my favorite one below :D) and tongue in cheek special abilities that come with them. So I may have lied just a bit by saying that there are no innovations at all. There is, but not enough :D.

Verdict: Recommended for purchase. Day 1 for fans and with first big discount one can get for everyone else :D.

P.S.: „Are you a trophy hunter? That's a Platinum Trophy over the weekend just right here!“.

It comes with an equalizer superpower, one hit finishes anyone, including You :D
