About

Super Indie Karts is a classic retro 16-bit style karting game, with Time Trials, Grand Prix, Splitscreen GP, and Battle Modes! The game was KickStarted late in 2014 and is aimed for completion in 2017. You don't have to wait until completion though as you can join in now with Early Access to the Super Indie Karts BETA builds! The BETA currently boasts over 30 characters and 32 tracks to play Single Player or Two Player Splitscreen in Grand Prix mode (and in Mirror Mode) and in Time Trials, and 3 local-multiplayer BattleMode arenas. More play modes, characters, and features will be added as the Early Access weeks drift on by. With one foot firmly in the past, witness authentic '90s hardware limitations such as:

  • shockingly bad draw distance!
  • incredibly small, almost claustrophobic, tracks!
  • trees and obstacles that pop up 5 yards in front of you!
  • World leading watermelon physics engine! (featuring Blast Processing!)
  • 1992 style screen curvature and motion blur!
  • Indie Game crossovers you know and love, and some you don't yet know you love!

More info on the final game:
Play as some super Indie Game crossover characters, coming to battle it out around the world in iconic locations or in some super Indie Game themed tracks! It might get a little bumpy out there though as there are plenty of weapons on the track to give you a spin: Melon Cannons, Exploding Pineapples, Melted Gelatos, Heatseeking Loconuts, and 3 different strength Chilli Boosts!

Indie Crossovers so far include: - Runbow - Freedom Planet - Teslagrad - Whispering Willows - Fist Of Awesome - Read Only Memories - Lobodestroyo - Canabalt - Duck Game - So Many Me - Toto Temple Deluxe - Aegis Defenders - Adventures Of Pip - Shutshimi - Gentlemen Ricochet - A.R.E.S. - Holobunnies - Clive'N'Wrench - Cross Code - PowerDrive2000 - Guacamelee! - and many more to come! With over 40 tracks to race on, in 3 speed classes, plus mirror mode, there'll also be plenty of achievements and unlocks to keep you drifting and burning pixel rubber 'till the pixelated billboard sun goes down!

Super Indie Karts reviews and comments

Early Access Review The Key used for this Review was provided by The Developer for Review purposes. What is Super Indie Karts? Super Indie Karts is a Racing Game that plays very much like the original "Super Mario Kart" from the SNES. At the Time of this Review, there are 2 Game Modes: "Grand Prix" and "Battle Mode." "Grand Prix" is the single player mode here, while "Battle Mode" is a local multiplayer mode. You play on 3 different Speed Levels, which are 50cc, 100cc and 150cc as in "Mario Kart." In the Game, of course, you try to finish first. A Power-up found on the Track can help you do that. Normally, there are 7 Computer Opponents. Plus, there's a Character Selection in which each Character is a Character from a different indie game. Detailed Review For an early access game, Super Indie Karts is already playing very well and is a lot of Fun. The Controls are good, but not yet customizable-This makes playing with German Keyboards a bit more difficult, as Z is on the QWERTZ keyboards far away from the other Keys of the Game. (After the Developer has been informed, this Y has added as an Alternative for Z, which is why it is now more playable.) Plus, many Controllers are supported-with a bit of Effort reportedly even an original SNES controller. The Graphics are retro style and look to do it very nicely. The Music sounds good and is also made in retro style. The Sounds sound good. The Game Mechanics are very easy to learn-Especially if you have already played Mario Kart. The Cards, of which there are not very many at the moment, are well and sometimes very creatively designed. The K.I. is also good and has no excessive Advantage against Humans. There are currently no Steam achievements or Steam collection cards. There are very few Bugs and new Bugs are fixed quickly. Pro Good, detailed retro graphics Vocal, good sounding retro music Good, matching Sounds Good control very many Controllers supported good K.I. good Balancing fast learning cards well designed characters implemented by many different indie Games Few Bugs developers quickly respond to the Discussions present In the community hub Cheats (In the Main Menu with the "Konami Code") Neutral No German Translation (English only) game in the Early-Access Contra currently only possible control Configuration Few Cards (but are still being added as early access) Is making conclusion Super Indie Karts, despite Early Access, already a lot of Fun. At the Moment there are not very many Cards, but these are added. The Game in most Aspects is already very mature and there are almost no Bugs. The general retro style fits well with the Game. The Music and Sound underscore this retro feeling even further. I would recommend Super Indie Karts to anyone looking for a racing Game that plays similar to an older "Mario Kart" game (E.g.: Super Mario Kart).
