About

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is a quest game developed by Frogwares. It is the sixth installment in the Sherlock Holmes series.

Plot

Sherlock Holmes, the famous investigator from Baker Street, falls under the suspicion of committing crimes. The player has to investigate several cases, that do not appear to be linked between each other at first playing as Sherlock Holmes himself and his sidekick Doctor Watson. The player has to decide for himself who Sherlock actually is - a friend, a savior, a genius detective or an unusually witted law offender.

Characters

The main characters in the game are Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson. Frogwares continues to follow their tradition of using their own portrayal of the protagonists, however, this time their appearance was reworked, as the protagonists now appear to be much younger.

Gameplay

The gameplay revolves around arriving at the crime scene, examining the scene, finding clues (several items are used to help the players, such as a magnifying glass), talking to different characters, witnesses, interrogating the suspects and interacting with items. The players often have to make assumptions in a mini-game that simulates the deductive method that Holmes uses.

The game features both the third-person camera, that is used by default and the first-person one. The players are free to choose whichever one they like at any time.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes reviews and comments

The Game is the sixth Installment in the Series-and if you look at Sherlock's Adventures so far, you can also see a significant Evolution of the Series. The Game is a classic Adventure with Non-death safe Situations-so you can't die unlike in "Baphomet's Curse." It can be played in several Perspectives-Ego, 3rd or classic P & C optics are available. The Charm of Sherlock is also well captured with the good German Synchro and especially with a sympathetic Sherlock and great Watson and the linear a Story Takes about 8-10 Hours. You can choose from several London locations, all of which are illustrated in great detail. The Centrepiece, of course, are the Puzzles that like to require all Your brain Lard and go from police Indez-interpretations (= Deductions) to various Nail cracks or puzzle mechanism tasks. The Game deals with Hints but fairly and as a rule inventory And Game World Combination possibilities are manageable and Easy. Only ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ the Game with its superfluous flashback narrative with terrifying set and animated Children and his generally very wooden And sluggish Animations. The Game is worth it for about €8-but the current successor "Crimes and Punishments" is better In almost all Respects!

This Game can at most be recommended to someone who is looking for a simple Conversation in the Form of Interactive Movies and for whom logical Story and good Gameplay are just annoying Inserts. No Case recommended for (special) Sherlock Holmes Fans, (in general) crime fans and certainly no Case for adorture players looking for a Challenge. Although the Game starts interestingly, it is increasingly losing fun. In The beginning, an interesting Title in which one (Sherlock Holmes typical) cases is to be unravelled By Logic and Conclusions. Helpful in doing so, the Deduction System with which one gradually clears up the Case. Unfortunately, you can't really do something wrong, the Game won't let you get on until you find the right Solution-and it's also promptly displayed once you have the right Answers. Draw False Conclusions, blame someone wrong, etc. can't happen. Slightly more interesting are the Switch Puzzles (Hated by many Adventure players). What you have to do explains the Game briefly-or not, then it's called guessing. If you can't get on with it after a short Time-but you can miss the only real Puzzles in this Game. From the second Half there are no more Cases at all, the Game degenerates into a Point & Click Advanture-just unfortunately not a good one. The Hotspots are manageable, the Puzzles simple and Logic You are looking for in vain. A locked Box? No Problem, Crowbar you will find at most 2m next to it. Loverted Door? The Conclusions are probably under a Cloth. And so on. They work their way through this wise the remaining Third of the Story. The Story is still interesting at The Beginning, but in The end it is too inconsistensible, much is not enlightened In the End and leaves questions Unanswered (which are not intended as Cliffhangers). Spoiler: One of the unlogged spots is when Dr. Watson searches for something in the Sewer for no plausible Reason. After what, the dear Dr. Watson unfortunately does not know either. This Fact is probably also due to the fact that he finds a Corpse there, but does not pay any further Attention to it and continues unashathered after a short Mortuary. Who, what, why-doesn't Matter. A little bit you get the Feeling that there are no Jobs missing here. Presumably, the Developers wanted to install more, but probably ran out of Time or money (or both). If you still really want to have this Game, you should at least wait for an Action or a Voucher.
