Quantum Break review
by Anton

If I had to point out one thing that I particularly enjoyed - that would be the visuals. The visual effects and the overall quality is amazing, even compared to games like Uncharted 4. Everything looks very realistic, especially on PC (if you can bare with poor performance around ~40 FPS). I will always remember the Bridge part as the most striking and visually complex scene I experienced to this day. The music is awesome too, and I loved how it was tied into the combat. It's no secret that there are a lot of moments when time is frozen. At that time the soundtrack goes into a low-pitch, slow mode, but whenever you blink or speed up - it goes high-pitch, so you feel like you actually have control over time and everything in the game reacts too it. The combat system is nice too, and it will reward skilled players with awesomely looking combos and interesting arenas to play around with. I don't know if I should mention the story at all. It's Remedy, so the story is good, and there is a lot to read and collect on the levels to understand what's really happening. Definitely recommend doing that closer to the end, as you will find a lot of answers in those collectibles.

In the end - it gets a "recommended" rank for sure. And it earns a personal "underrated" award from me, you should definitely check this one out!

This is a game that I really wanted to like, and first act of the game wasn’t that bad. As the game progressed….well…things started to lose me. Quantum Break is a beautiful game to look at, but now (in 2019) I have seen some improved graphics, but they are still impressive nevertheless. I think a lot of the hype surrounding this game was due in part to the powers involved (Remedy Entertainment and Microsoft) and the fact that this game was one of the first releases on next gen. The story of the game centers on Jack Joyce (Shawn Ashmore), who seems to be an “every man” stock character, who is granted time manipulation powers. He is not the only person to have been changed during this experiment/accident gone wrong as his friend, Paul Serene (Aidan Gillen)is also granted similar time manipulation abilities. Together the two clash over the impending event dubbed “the End of Time” that has been set in motion. This sounds like a good story on paper, but the game does not effectively execute this. I found myself bumbling about and engaging in these set piece action settings as opposed to feeling the need to push forward in the game. I take that back, I actually wanted to press forward in the game….just so I could beat it and be done with it. I was getting tired of the unimaginative powers and abilities and shootouts that litter the game and this needlessly convoluted and distant story also hanging overhead. The shooting mechanics are very barebones and uncreative. I wanted to rush through shootout segments just to get through them because they were needlessly challenging or outright uneventful and boring. I did not receive any sense of accomplishment or relief upon completing many of these action segments, even with a vast array of time altering powers at my disposal. Quantum Break is an okay game. I definitely won’t be revisiting it anytime soon. It’s very much a one and done kind of game. There’s nothing enticing to really bring me back to it.  Also, the live action series that was made to accompany the game.....yeah, I could have done without that. It seemed like both a waste of time and besides Aidan Gillen (whose performance was questionable at times) and  Lance Reddick all of the actors were absolutely terrible. The series is definitely worth skipping.

Quantum Break Quantum Break is one of the Games that has gotten some little Attention. Maybe it's because it wasn't hyped very highly, but one of the Games that deserved that rather than certain other Games. Nowadays you don't pay such attention to other Things, when another Game is on the Rise, it almost doesn't seem to matter how bad it is. Quantum Break comes from the Studio of "Remedy Entertainment," which also became known for "Max Payne 1" & "Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne." Also "Alan Wake" is from this Studio and Quantum Break has "Microsoft Studios" As a Publisher. As a result, the Game is only available on Xbox & PC. As a Full Price Title, however, it was already on the Market for under €40, which surprised me very positively at the time, even though I bought it only later, because I just had too many Games still on my List. Quantum Break contains a lot of Story and is one of the few 3rd Person Shooters in which you can just sit back for almost 15 Minutes and follow the Story. Daazu come the Actors you've probably seen in Movies or Series many times. Because you have Movie Sequences that aren't just animated, the Game seems much more vivid. Since you can make Decisions, different Scenes have also been shot. Pro: + very good Graphics + great sound + Captivating Story + time Forces + well-known actors (animated and genuinely shot) + Decision-making Possibilities + Collectible, such as Background Knowledge and Radio & TV + Achievements Contra:-unfortunately not quite Bug-free-quite short- boring Weapons-stupid Opponents-sometimes a bit confusing (may also lie to me xD)-at Level easily (really very easily-should have played here thinking hard, since I was totally underwhelmed. See below) Conclusion: In my Opinion Quantum Break is a really Very good 3rd Person shooter with an excellent Story. The Story is thoughtful and not only captivating, but also partly a bit sad. Basically, this one shows how People react to enforce Your Ideals. Through the Actors, everything seems more like a Film and through the Story scenes, which are a little longer and almost resemble a Series, everything seems even more like a Film that you play yourself. Will definitely not be for everyone, but if you like a good Story and want to watch just a Movie for 10-20 Minutes, you're in good hands here. As the Game progresses, you strengthen your Time forces and you have a lot to read (if you want to), but you also learn more Background knowledge. I didn't expect much from the Game as it didn't have a good Reputation at the Start, but I can't confirm this. Neither the Game is going badly or somehow has poor Control. Well, running badly is rather less possible through my System, but if someone claims the Controls were bad, you should think if it's not up to yourself. Since the Game has given me some very leisurely Hours, there is a Thumbs up and I wish everyone a lot of Fun with it. PS: I often play on easily to play the Story faster, but it was a Mistake here. I think it would be "hard" at the Difficulty level to play just as easily. Anyone with experience with Shooters or 3rd Person Shooters should Select the level "normal". When I got the game from a monthly HumbleBundle, I checked the reviews and found them to be mixed at best. I cannot quite understand as I truly enjoyed both the story and the game itself with it's mechanics (think of Max Payne bullet time to get an idea but it has much more). Of course it helps if you are interested in a science fiction topic like time travel. If you do, you will find a story very well fleshed out. Liked the characters, too. Definitely a game I will play once more some time in the future.

Many bad reviews cited technical problems, I found none, maybe it had received patches by then. A few times it is not quite clear how to beat a certain enemy but hey, Google is your friend.
