Overall, I really enjoyed my time playing Earthlock and it provided me my fix of turn based RPG games which I really missed due to them being viewed as “outdated” or “old”. Earthlock was not brilliant and certainly flawed at times but I still enjoyed the experience it provided and really enjoyed my time playing it. I hope that more developers will follow suit in making turn based RPGs and not describe the genre as “outdated” or “old” because they simply aren’t. We also found out earlier this year with another game “I am Setsuma” which was another great example of the turn based RPG games really excelling.

The big highlight of Eartlock is undoubtedly the management of the fights which is done in two times: first when you walk and you encounter enemies, you have the possibility to try to isolate them or to go into the heap (knowing that the more you take of enemies at once the more one has an XP bonus that can really be advantageous if one takes risks) before engaging the actual combat that is done by turn. The order of the attackers is based on their speed STAT and it allows to test a range of strategies. Big strong point, then.
But apart from that it must be admitted that in spite of simple and engaging graphics, we quickly notice the imitate of means: cinematics not very interesting, and especially a total absence of duplicates that lead a little moments that could be funny or epic ( but hey, the story is not crazy either). The camera is also a bit rigid in the exploration phases, but it's still bearable. The character enhancement system is intuitive and the benefits of a good understanding between team members is a little more. The music is also not at the level of better games (especially a certain Japanese RPG turn by turn that had set the bar very high...) but it remains pleasant.
In the end we find ourselves in front of a nice old-fashioned turn-by-turn RPG, which will certainly not revolutionize the genre but has a few friendly things to offer. The only thorous question is the price. 20 euros is definitely a bit much (it was once at 30...) But with the little boost of a reduction it can do it. It certainly can.

Lazy to make a nice presentation all this, I'll just write what I have on my heart!
Being a functional eater of RPGs, I begin to have experience and here is what to remember from my review on approach: buy it.
(Just for the music, go for ahah, but read the rest of my Eval!)
The game is all cute, all beautiful full, we let ourselves be taken by the story that still lacks details on some point and especially, the fights are really very nice.
Everything is fluid, no problem at this level, and I have at the moment encountered no bugs or any error/inconsistency in maps/dialogues etc.
This is quite special as a game, for example you do not have equipment strictly speaking. Forget rings, capes, helmets, swords, shields, no no. It is with the talent tree and using maps/masteries found all over the game that you will evolve your characters. Little more besides for the really nice talent system to use. And as for passive skills/new spells, everything will be done thanks to the development of "relationship between pairs" which is something really cool and that will make you enjoy new assets throughout the game if you develop them well!
Only small bémols: the difficulty of the game is to be revisited. Some fights at the beginning of the game are really complicated if you do not manage the aggro/engage system well (I let you discover this) and some pretty strong bosses.
Maps that could be really incredibly pretty if little particle effects everywhere were added, or things that move like birds, flies, animals what. Wind also would be cool;p apart from that, the game is really good, super nice, fluid, lets itself Digest. These two little flats come from a perfectionist objective spirits and are to be taken lightly ahah. also note that you will still need in 8 11 and 13 hours of play to complete the main story.
Thank you for reading and I hope you will buy this really nice little RPG:)
