Gameplay-wise, this isn't too bad. More of the tried-and-true Homeworld formula. The presentation is lovely, as well, with a modern take on the classic visuals and sounds that people loved about Homeworld and Homeworld 2.
Story-wise, it's a disaster. In a misguided effort to improve inclusivity the aspects of the Homeworld story that were broadly appealing have been shoved so far into the background that they're impossible to see. No longer is the world mysterious, otherworldly, or awe-inspiring. It's unfortunately replaced by a poorly executed story about emotions, and vaguely family. Perhaps this angle could have been interesting had it been handled better, but as it is... it's simply trite and distracting.

This game gives me the same excitement as when me and my brother got a PS2 for christmas all those years ago. It's refreshing, innovative, beautiful and most importantly, fun. The game being free is beyond belief to me and as much as anyone hates microtransactions, in this game they don't affect gameplay. The cosmetics are banger after banger, nailing every genre they attempt. The devs listen to the community and set a course for the game based on that. All in all, it's only missing a big esports scene, but that's about all the negatives I can find.
