Aggression: Europe Under Fire
About
Aggression is a military real-time strategy game set within a historic context featuring role-playing elements. Play the role of a political leader of Russia, Great Britain, France or Germany. It is up to you to take firm decisions at the crucial period of the European history – the World Wars ages covering 1914 – 1945.
The main feature of the game is a holistic approach to the state administration model. The player is controlling political, economic, technological and military spheres, which contributes to creating an atmosphere of ruling an actual country. Despite the extensive range of possibilities, the process of state administration in Aggression remains rather simple and easy to master. The majority of game aspects allow for flexible settings, thus giving the player a chance to set a desirable control level or choose the auto-control mode. Good game at a fair price. A mixture of simply Total War and Hearts of Iron or other Paradox games. Same as Aggression Reign over Europe. Good compatible with Windows 7, or 8! The game likes or dislikes. The game like it better if you understand it (that needs a few hours for testing and reading descriptions). Before that, one is skeptical. The battles are graphically ok and the strategy map is well done. Details are well implemented. Who puts on best graphics is wrong here but I think it is good enough for a strategic game.
+ Many historically correct generals, leaders and agents can be recruited.
+ Many various units, enough buildings and research.
+ Time period WWI and WW2 with open end.
+ Real time on the strategy map and battle with the option to stop for commands.
+ Tactical battle unit language are national specific. German units speek german (good for me :-D), french speek french, british speek english...
+ Alliances or trade agreements are respected and you get inquire from other countries and allies.
+ Historical events, random events and tasks affect the relationships, own/enemy country and the resources (for example assassinate, helping hand with army, resources or agents).
+ One can specialize the characters or mix skills for an all-round talent.
+ Units and charakters gain experience and increase in level traits with role-playing elements.
+ Leaders, generals, ministers, spy, humanitarian, scientiest are available and look different.
+ Leaders, generals can build fortifications on strategy map and per trait on battle.
+ Strategic fortifications bring reinforcements and artillery support in battle.
+ Maximum squad size per general are 50 and +50 reinforcements by fortifications on strategy map.
+ Each agent can cause permanent or temporary abilities against the enemy or own country/agents.
+ TW + HOI elements are well combined (strategy map, movements, battle, research, resources).
+ Victory points can be captured in battle especially one for rewards. The rewards are military (for the ongoing battle) or economically (resources strategy map).
+ The battle destruction affects the later economy of the country (strategy map).
+ Bloody dead bodys and destroyed vehicles remain on the battle ground for some time.
+ Some think the battle pathfinding is bad, but this is only half true (the units move realistically when you consider the environment especially hills and buildings) and the environment affects the units.
+ Some think a few units do not fire, but this is also half true (the units fire realistically when you consider the side+front or turn weapons especially tanks).
+/- Some think the KI only recruit infantry and run into players fire, but this is only half true (later in game when available the KI recruit arty, fighters and mechanic units and infantry do also hidden in buildings from beginning). Of course it looks like stupid in some battles but the other side is that the KI also become rewards for captured the special victory point and win the battle when captured all.
+/- A rare dont`t fire bug can be solved if you just press Ctrg for specify the target.
+/- A sound bug with armored car (machine gun sound depends) can be solved if you just change the position on the minimap and then go back.
+ Buildings, environment and units are destroyed physically correct.
+/- Bad tutorial but manual is well explained via downloadable pdf file.
+/- Little diplomacy but the most important is present. You can do much diplomatically and other things with spies and agents.
+ Automatic battles and automatic construction (some think the automatic battles are not balanced but you must use the best units via situation for example field battle, city, fortication.
+ Additional: you can change the GameParams.xml (hard drive / Program Files ( x86) / Steam apps / common / aggression / data / XMLFiles / GameParams.xml). But before that please make backup file. You can change everything. For example PlayersCampaignDefault, Units, Agents, DifficultyCoef, RelationsCampaignDefault, CampaignStartingConditionsCities.
- In the tactical battle it crashes sometimes (problem adico.exe), but thats also known by other strategic games and not new. Use autosave before battle.
- In the tactical battle it crashes often when units walking over bridges (problem adico.exe). Try other bridges or better use no bridges and go over land terrain or passable water zones. Many tactical maps have this possibilities. Few tactical maps have only bridges and if you have adico.exe crash then you can only conquered with autobattle.
I say buy it....
