Having never played the original ff7, die hard fans will want to take my perspective with a grain of salt.
But this game kept surprising me. It gets weird. Then it gets weirder. Then it gets too weird. But by the end, the pathos sneaks up on you. I was genuinely surprised by affected I was by the ending.
Not all of it works. Not all of it is entertaining. But I will remember this gaming journey fondly for years to come. And against all odds, as a fair-weather fan of the series, I feel the same way at the end of this 80 hours that I did at the end of the last game's 35: full of anticipation for the next entry.
