Field of Glory II
About
It is 280 BC. Rome has defeated her main Italian rivals and is looking to expand further. First she must repel the invasion of southern Italy by King Pyrrhos of Epeiros. Then she will go on first to conquer the Carthaginian Empire in Spain and North Africa, then to push eastwards and conquer Greece, Macedon, Egypt and the Near East, as well as Gaul to the north. All this will take 250 years of epic struggle, at the end of which the Roman Republic will descend into civil war. Octavianus will emerge as the eventual victor and reign as Augustus, the first Roman Emperor.
Field of Glory II allows you to fight large or small battles for or against Rome, or between the other nations who are as yet unaware of the Roman threat, or what-if battles between nations that never actual came into conflict historically, but might have done if the course of history had been different.
Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical game set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC.
Take command of a huge variety of armies employing vastly different tactical doctrines. Lead your chosen army and its named generals to victory in set-piece historical battles or "what-if" custom battle situations against an AI or human opponent.
Field of Glory II has a brand new campaign system that concentrates on the battles, and allows real strategic decisions without time spent moving armies around a strategic map. Each battle is vital to your progress. Your army will gain experience and elan as it goes from victory to victory against your enemies and their allies. There are four campaigns allowing you to follow the careers of some of the most famous historical leaders of the era: Pyrrhos of Epeiros, Hannibal, Mithridates of Pontus and Julius Caesar. There is also a sandbox campaign that allows you to lead any nation (and their historical allies) against any other nation (and their allies) – giving many thousands of permutations.
Victory will require determination and tactical mastery!

Very good game, I highly recommend it to everyone interested in deep turn based tactical battles.
+ Game, mechanics, UI, everything is top
+ great visual feedback, fighting units have actually fighting animations (in all directions!), bodies remain on the ground, you also have flags to see how units are doing (from yellow to red)
+ at the beginning of a battle you can move several units together
+ very nice, clean and good to read graphics, the units and the battlefield hit the sweet spot between table top and computer game
+ good amount of content
+- when a lot of units are entangled it can get a bit messy sometimes - would be cool to be able to toggle unit square colors on/off to see the course of the frontline in a glance
- Meta game/campaign, still not sold on that one. Yet another Slitherine game that suffers from this. It's not bad or anything but it's far from really getting the feeling of fighting an actual military "campaign". Would be nice to finaly get some inovation there.
- Still don't like the asynchronous MP battles. For smaller battles (up to 30min) a "regular" MP would be totally fine even on public servers.
8.5/10 With Sanctus Reach and Pike & Shot one of the best Slitherine games so far.
Cheers

Field of Glory II fulfills one of my most heartfelt desires. Finally a Game that focuses on a single Battle in Antiquity. As in a Chess Game, it's all about steering individual Units across a Battlefield to win a big Battle with Tactics and a strategy of their own. Field of Glory II closes the Gap between the well-known Games that show visually stunning Battles or nations heading for many Centuries in a historical Age. There is no Diplomacy, no trade, kene role-playing Elements, nothing to build, nor are there graphic pictorial battles. But for this a Simulation of many numerous and historical Individual Battles that once existed in Antiquity with well-known Factions. The Map can be freely rotated in all Directions, and you can zoom in close to its Units. Poking enemy Units on top of each other, there are related Animations in Image and Sound. Field of Glory II is like a Battle Simulator Because you can set numerous Elements before a Battle begins. There are Campaigns, historical Individual Battles and additional downloadable Battles from the Community or you can simply create your own.
The Long-term Motivation is definitely given. Field of Glory II is, in my Opinion, also uncompetitive, because, as explained above, it does not compete with other major Fighting games at all, but has chosen its own Niche, which is to put the One single Battle in the foreground, just like a Good Chess Game.
Hope for more DLC to this Game because it awakens the Desire for more as a Battle defies. The fact that you can save after each Round is another Plus, as individual Battles can last for Hours depending on how big the Battle has set up beforehand.
I can fully recommend Field of Glory II to any Strategy Expert and Lover of Battles.
