About

Marvel's Spider-Man offers the player to take on the role of the most famous Marvel superhero.

Plot

The game introduces Spider-Man as an already experienced superhero. By the time the game begins, Peter has captured the infamous Kingpin as well as several other supervillains. Now, a gang that goes by the name of Demons poses a new danger to New York. Meanwhile, Peter is working for the scientist Otto Octavius, who didn't yet become Dr. Octopus, on their science project. Throughout the game, Spidey has to deal with multiple enemies, such as Norman Osbourne, Electro, Vulture, Rhino and Kingpin, among others.

Gameplay

The player controls Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, from the third person view. There are also sections of the game in which the player controls other protagonists, namely Mary Jane and Miles Morales. The game is set in a 3D environment that is modeled after New York City. The player can travel the city using web slings, running, jumping, and crawling the walls. The setting includes numerous high-rise buildings designed specifically for Spider-Man's movements.

As the player progresses, he or she unlocks new suits that grant Spider-Man new abilities, such as additional attacks or enhanced Spider-Sense. The abilities are not tied to the suits, however, and the player can use the suit of his or her choice without losing the ability. The combat system is similar to that in Batman: Arkham, in that Spider-Man fights many opponents in hand-to-hand combat but avoids killing them.

Great story, some messy parts (looks at MJ and Miles) but overall pretty great. Hope side quests and optional activities get more exciting in the sequel. Easy platinum though.

swinging around the city feels truly amazing, its the best part of the game and it goes a long, long way. story is heavier than expected, but the main villain isnt convincing. base hand to hand combat is decent enough, but the gadgets you implement during hand to hand combat are what make it special. precision movement is nigh impossible and the process of collecting crime tokens, which pave the way for some of the best upgrades in the game, is unfun.
8/10 LIKE: - Traversal feels amazing (fluid/tactile swinging) - Characterization of Peter/Doc Ock/others - Cinematic feel (music, camera, cutscenes) - Vibrant visuals and life-like character models - Actually felt compelled to find collectibles - Act 3 was suitably epic; loved collection of villians DON'T LIKE: - Predictable story notes - Combat is very derivative of Arkham - Half-baked MJ/Miles stealth sections - Precise movement very awkward - Crime tokens are a repetitive slog - Story dragged in act 2
In my opinion, this offers one of the best Spider-Man stories ever told outside comics. The acting and sound design are also incredible, as well as the addictive web swinging mechanic. Although it didn't quite stand up to the rest of 2018's offering (God of War, RDR2), this game still stands out as one of the best of the year, and definitely the best Spider-Man game we've had the pleasure of playing.
«That Ending!»
Quite great in its' story. Only downside is the gameplay leaves a bit to be desired for me. The stealth, puzzles and minigames hold the game back, but the combat and story make it a game that I can recommend! 8/10
Loved it, so much fun, didn't feel overcrowded with characters thankfully. I actually liked the side stuff like hacking and playing as others. It added variety, there are only so many things you can do as Spider-Man. Can't wait for the next one.
Literally the best game I've played in 5+ years. Couldn't stop playing.. I completed the game 100% within 20 hours. Tripped acid and swung around the city for at least 6 of those. 10/10, incredible gameplay.
This is the most addicting game I've ever played, in that when I'm swinging around New York deciding what to do next, I literally. Can't. Stop. Swinging. I'll make it to my marker and my brain wants to stop but my fingers just won't allow it, I need to be swinging around this city, web-zipping to the top of water towers, dive bombing off the tallest skyscraper I can find in the vicinity, and running along the sides of buildings and quickly jumping between one and another in a slim alleyway. If Insomniac put out this game with nothing to do in the world except swinging around endlessly, I would have been very very satisfied. Lucky for us they populated the world with heaps of crimes to stop, pigeons to round up, and landmarks to take selfies in front of AND a fully-realized fantastic new Spider-Man story with a great Doc Ock origin story. Insomniacs' Peter Parker is the definitive one (I still love you Tobey Maguire, I love you so much...) and every moment he was talking I was into it. The voice acting is so good and the facial animations are incredible, mixing to make a mesmerizing, addicting, brand new Spider-Man story. And the late-game world switch up when you suddenly get all new crimes everywhere and new bases to take down and a beautiful terrifying broken New York to swing around?? God Insomniac, the world doesn't deserve this. My only complaints with the game are it's length, I platinumed the whole thing in less than 40 hours (my first platinum ever mind you, thank you Insomniac for making this pretty damn achievable), and how easy it is on normal difficulty. I never had issues with any boss fights and hardly any issues with bases, apart from the Sable ones which were actually a good challenge. I know I could have just upped the difficulty, and I will on my next playthrough, but I feel like "normal" difficulty should challenge the player a bit more. Apart from that Insomniac knocked this one out of the park.
«Can’t stop playing»
norm. best new york after  gta4
Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out a little repetitive but the world building and level design is amazing, up there with the GTA games. The complicated moves and movement controls of spider-man are also made easy to use.
