About

Double Fine Productions and Tim Shafer are known for making very curious games out of amazing ideas. Psychonauts is exactly about some idea. You have to get inside people's mind and help them fight with their fears or memories from the past.

We follow a story of Raz, who runs away from the circus and goes to the summer camp for Psychonauts - people with special abilities. They refuse to teach him but allow him to participate in "Basic Braining" course. When his talent becomes clear, he's being invited to an experiment. After receiving a vision, he realises that there's a sinister plan behind the camp and only he can save everyone there.

The game exists in two different worlds - a real one and a mental one. If the real world leaves no question about it, the mental world is one of the most interesting features of the game. Twisted minds, memories from the past and deepest fears is something you are about to encounter with. Having a number of abilities like telekinesis or invisibility will help you cure a person's psychological issue.

Psychonauts reviews and comments

Tim Schafer is never wrong and this gem of a game does not make any exceptions. Good humor, music, mood and playability. Catching history. Works smoothly with analog gamepad, so you don't have to sit around with your mouse and keyboard. If one can like a hybrid of graphic adventure games from Lucasarts and N64 platform classics like Conker's bad fur day and Banjo Kazooie (and you can), this is one of the better purchases on the App Store during the day. True story.

So in the beginning I was very skeptical about the running behavior because of the reviews. But after I decided to load it and the first start worked well I was absolutely surprised what is required. For a graphic from the year 2005, it looks really great and it also controls control - if it does not work with the mouse, simply use the arrow keys. For me at least the game was worth it. It pleases me very well therefore a clear purchase recommendation. iMac 24 "2.93 GHz 4 GB RAM OS X 10.6.8

Platform game with humor and character I haven't seen. Criticism for the clouds, but still sold nothing as it was too srt. Psychonauts are not played by people who like P4 or watching TV3 / TVNorge. Psychonauts are actually good. This is perhaps my favorite game, and believe me - I've played a lot. As a game reviewer, I should keep something objectively, but Psychonauts has inspired me to study further on psychology and gave me hp that there is intellect in the world. Purchase and support Double Fine's product.

On my current MBA, the game runs fluidly at 1024 x 768, although here is just an Intel HD Graphics 3000 included. The fan is indeed fast at the stop, but with earphones strts not further :) At the time, I did not hear the first release, so I'm very excited about the content. I'm still not quite through, but think it's funny and with a little bit of superiority to master. Sometimes it is not that easy to control with the trackpad or the mouse (for example when hovering in the disco) but with a bit of practice you can get through it as well.

It's a shame that Psychonauts barely found buyers when it first appeared a few years ago - such an original, varied and lovable action-adventure / jump'n'run game can not be found that fast any second time. Technically it is unchanged compared to the original, but due to the loving presentation is not a broken leg. I did not experience any crashes while playing, only the menu for the controller support is not completely error-free: it took some attempts to configure the controller correctly. But that does not really affect the Spielspa.
If you haven't played this game in the past it would be a bit harder to recommend this game to you. Don't get me wrong, it's very funny in its character design, writing, it has very imaginative levels and level design sprinkled with a good story, but at the same time, it has by today's standards bad controls, finicky camera, and bad design choices. One which immediately comes to mind is when progressing through the story you come to a point where an optional item from the store is mandatory to pass through the story. So I had to exit the level and farm arrowheads through the camp so I could buy it, then get back to the level and resume the plot. There are plenty of obtuse design choices like that and there were plenty of moments there I died because of bad controls or camera angles, but this game has a heart and I can't deny that. Try it, but know what you get yourself into!
Jesus CHRIST I fucking despise platformers. But this? This gets a pass for being the best-designed, funniest and weirdest adventure this side of the realm. God imagine if every game was written as well as this.
