About

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is an action platform game, the third installment in WayForward’s Shantae series.

Plot

The game follows the half-genie Shantae and takes place after an event of the Shantae: Risky’s Revenge. The main heroine abandons her genie powers and stars adjusting to the life of a regular human being. One day she comes across the previous game’s antagonist, a pirate named Risky Boots that tells her about evil and fearsome tyrant Pirate Master sealed long ago by genies wants to revive himself using Dark Magic. Now Shantae must form an unexpected alliance with her past rival to stop Pirate Master.

Gameplay

Regarding gameplay, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse shares many similarities with previous games in the series. It is a 2D side-scroller that is not divided into several levels but rather takes place in one interconnected world. The game mostly consists of fighting enemies, solving puzzles, platforming sections, interacting with different NPC that can give you quests or sell useful items. Since Shantae abandoned her genie powers, in this game you do not use magic abilities, instead of throughout the game you collect different pirate items such as a pistol, a pirate hat, pirate boots, scimitar, and cannon. Each of them gives player new abilities that help in combat, puzzle solving or open previously closed areas of the game world.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse reviews and comments

Completed as of writing this review: 100% Save File Slot (Not all achievements).

This game is so much better than Risky's Revenge in so many ways in every aspect! If you'd like a Metroidvania game, which is also a fun, entertaining experience with joyful story-telling (plus smart 4th wall breaks) - this game is for you. I can't tell you enough how much I can recommend this game.

Great Game:) Pros:-Varied combat System-Individual Upgrades of Weapons possible-Humorous storyline-Human Difficulty, sometimes demands you already but there is nothing you can't get on after time. -Coole Easter Egs;)-Varied (alternating between fights and different jump & runs) Disadvantages:-If you have played longer nciht and then want to continue with a Score, it is difficult to reunite, because the Game demands (similar to that of Many Zelda play) that you keep an Overview of things you have seen. So after Acquiring a Weapon, you have to go back into old Cards to unlock something. After 2 months break you just don't know where what was. -In order not to miss any Upgrade Items etc., you have to take a close look at each Card. If nothing is bad in itself, but since you don't want to go through the Dungeon a second time later, sometimes you only get sher slowly progressing.

Basic Sequel for Shantae and genre friends Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is a successful Sequel. Many Of the Previous ones ' Shortcomings, such as the short Playing time, the lax Difficulty level and the coarsely pixelated Graphics have just been ironed. And with the Change from magic to pirate gear, a new Game Flair is also built, which keeps the Series fresh. The Game still belongs to the category of Metroidvania-style action platformers, even if this is a greater Focus on the action platform aspect. Unfortunately, there are some Point Deductions in the B note. The Background Graphics are no longer as lovingly designed as in its Predecessor and the skyrocketing rise in difficulty in the final Dungeon is beyond irritating. And a proper Voiceover is also overdue. The Shantae franchise is, after all, among the more text-heavy Titles of the bouncy game genre. These Shortcomings, however, do not change the rock Solid Fun and the enormous Charm that Shantae and Co. spread. You can look forward to the next Game! Pro and Kontra: Pro:-creative And cute Sexy Protagonist-great Characters and cute story-varied Gameplay-wide Movepalette and many Items-better Teleporting System than in the Predecessor-beautiful Soundtrack with earworm factor-the Graphics are Not as extremely coarse pixelated as in the Predecessor Neutral-action platform in Metroidvania style-stronger focus on action platforming than in the last Game-Average Playing Time of about 10-12 Hours-finally offers German Screen lyrics Kontra:-the Final Dungeon in the Game annoys with excessive Difficulty-Unlocking the Good and real End probably requires the Help of a Complete Solution-the Background Graphics are no longer as detailed as in the Predecessor-pad control is limited to Xbox 360 controllers, Third-party devices are not supported-still no Voiceover (only single words and Sounds have been synchronized) The full Review: http://www.gamecontrast.de/shantae-and-the-pirates-curse-review/#more-68618
