God of War: Ascension
About
This prequel to the very first game in the God of War series and the seventh game in the franchise. It is exclusive for the Sony PlayStation 3 console. The game still uses the ancient Greek mythology as visual inspiration and the primary story source.
The player takes control over the warrior Kratos. At the beginning of the game, the protagonist was imprisoned after he violated the blood oath given to the god of war Ares. One of the three goddesses of revenge Megera tortures Kratos, but he manages to break free and start the path to revenge on the gods of Olympus.
Kratos still uses the dual Blade of Chaos. They can be improved, but this is not the only weapon in the game: other weapons are available for purchase thanks to the new World Weapons mechanics. The gameplay is no different from the other games of the series: the player still needs to connect the attacks in combos and arrange hack and slash mayhem. This is the only game in the series, in which multiplayer is available for eight people: the main task is to seize control of the card and get a reward from the gods.

God of War: Ascension reviews and comments
The combat is the worse aspect, while GoW 3 had fluid and fun combat, Ascension's combat is a major step down. You don't have multiple different weapons anymore just 4 elements for the same basic attacks, that change your attacks just a little. Magic abilities are tied to the elements and you can only get most magic abilities only after you fully upgrade your weapons.
Now, onto the fights themselves. God of War 2 and 3 had a lot of enemy variety, but Ascension doesn't. You mainly fight a single type of enemy the satyrs or the bug people, which are the same enemies, but they have different weapons you can pick up. There are still the many enemies God of War is known for like cyclopes, medusas, cerberus, etc., but they appear much less than they should've. As such many battle sequences are uninspired.
I'll give the game credit where its due, the levels look good, from Ouroboros to Apollo's statue, the world of God of War Ascension looks great, the puzzles though are a step down from GoW 3. And also, the bosses are a fun time, as expected from a God of War game.
Overall, it's a decent game, but a major step down from God of War 3.
