I really want to like this game again, but for me it has not aged well at all. At the time of release, the graphics and presentation were astoundingly bright, clear, and smooth.
Garbage without the Sega Dreamcast fishing pole controller. Throw this one back into the ocean.
Who thought it was a good idea to make NFL Blitz realistic? Terrible.
A tremendous game concept (time moves forward only as your character moves) masterfully executed. Unfortunately the VR adaptation of SUPERHOT isn't quite as good as the normal 2D version. But this is without question THE most innovative shooter I've played in years.
While I don't think it exceeds the original Nidhogg, the sequel Nidhogg 2 is a competent, fast-paced head to head battle simulator. The game is no longer about fencing necessarily, but controversially chose to take a completely different direction in it's art direction. To me it looks inferior to the original. Fortunately, the gameplay is just as satisfying in this sequel.
A completely silly premise skillfully executed, to make a wonderfully preposterous game. ClusterTruck is a lot of fun.
Bizarre, left field, and joyfully experimental. Bamboo EP isn't a blockbusters, that's for sure. But if you're interested in experimental indie games, this is a great one to explore for yourself.
A faithful and fun recreation of the original classic. Recently released on Steam, which is the best way to get this game. If you aren't experienced at Killer Instinct (as 99% of people aren't), make sure you turn on the combo assistance feature.
Still rough around the edges in full release, PUBG has become a global phenomenon worth exploring. Although copycats are near and far, there is nothing quite like the authentic PUBG experience, defined mostly by constant tension and fear of who is lurking around the corner.
One of the most interesting games of all time, remastered and made so much better. It's not just the visual fidelity which has been improved here, there are enjoyable new game modes and (free) support for VR included as well. An amazing value and a timeless game that everyone should check out.
Crushingly difficult and mocks you the entire way. In my opinion you are better off watching a Let's Play Youtube video about Getting Over It than actually dedicating your own time to this incredibly frustrating game.
Who'd have thought that Superflight would be so much fun? This easily-overlooked Steam indie title is one of the most simple, enjoyable premises I've encountered: fly dangerously. That's it. Check it out and see if this refreshingly elegant approach to procedurally generated flight doesn't do it for you also.
It seems like a gimmick, but if you are a Japanese learner, mastering the hiragana (and katakana) are absolutely crucial to establishing foundational Japanese. And fortunately, Hiragana Pixel Party does a good job at helping you commit these to deep memory while having fun. Think of Parappa the Rappa around language learning - it is that type of rhythmic gameplay. Recommended if you are at the beginner to intermediate level of Japanese learning.
It's short, but High Hell is a blast which I thoroughly enjoyed. Picture a first person, cell-shaded Hotline Miami and you basically have High Hell. Pulse-pounding fun and filled with character. Some of the best loading screens I've ever seen.
While the graphics are phenomenal, Fast RMX is extremely challenging and lacks a lot of what I'd consider basic game options to be an easy recommendation. Prior to the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch, I think Fast RMX was a good purchase but now it's a little more difficult to recommend. If you love Wipeout and F-Zero, this is for you, since those titles are absent on Switch.
Simply one of the best games I've ever played. It is stunning to be playing Zelda in 2018 and realize that we are now at the top of the Zelda mountain after a generation. The sense of freedom in Breath of the Wild is unparalleled.
Heart-warming, enchanting retro authenticity in Sonic Mania, which feels like the best version of an early 1990's platformer that could possibly exist. Along with Shovel Knight.
While the sequel is considered the peak of the Dead Space series, there is something about the original which struck a chord with me. Heavy, atmospheric isolation in a unique sci-fi horror environment. Particularly innovative approach to UI design in this game.
One of the most thrilling FPS games I can remember ever playing. I haven't done crystal meth but this is what I imagine it is like. Hopefully with less blood.
A subtly interactive world with great aesthetics and great sound design. I kept finding new things every playthrough.
