Hellblade has one of the best voice acting, motion capture and writing I've seen in games. You are highly advise to use headphones, you'll feel yourself really in the head of Senua. The gameplay is solid, fighting is good, puzzles are fun. In conclusion, Ninja Theory made an epic game, too bad it's not that long.
Combat is very good with all the combos and chains you can do, and spells are some of the most epic I've seen in RPGs. They look spectacular and you'll never tire of some juicy squashing enemies with meteorites and piking them through with ice bolts. The leveling system and the ability to change classes are quite good and entertaining. Bosses are unique and diverse, and there are multiple approaches to beat each one.
This is, as far as I remeber, the only action RPG that allows you to climb on top of big enemies and slash them down in parts. I do it every time I have a chance. Great game.
If you are looking for a fighting hack-and-slash game, go somewhere else, but if you like a deep story based on Norse mythology and value the atmosphere and clever puzzles, Hellblade will make you happy. Graphics are good and the game is very well optimized – it runs smoothly. The story is linear but nevertheless great. Headphones are a must to play.
First, I want to say that this is one of the most beautifully optimized games I've seen in a few years. It is a joy to play on a PC. The gameplay is cool, lots of tactics allowing different approaches to all problems, lots of strategy too, especially concerning your party, there's lots of synergy and only you decide how to effectively combine skills. All in all, this is the benchmark for the modern cRPGs, and a must have for all fans of the series as well as RPG-lovers.
Exceptional
This game is incredible, you die a lot but you still have a lot of fun. Playing together in person is much better than playing online and it brings the good old memories of classic co-op games. This is a run and gun of the decade for me.
I have way more than 100 hours in it on my PS4 and I started replaying it on PC too, What can I say? This really is a GOTY, and CDPR deserves all the support and praise it got for it. Truly a masterpiece.
The most enjoyable play-your-own-music game since Audiosurf. Looks fantastic, plays crazy, sounds great because it's you favorite songs. Also, I have to mention it, there are issues when you just can't spot enemies in all color explosions. I understand this is the style of the game, but sometimes it's really difficult to play because you can't see shit. Still, I'd heartily recommend this game if you just want something unique.
It is one of the best story driven FPS along with Bioshock and Wolfenstein titles. The side-effect to this is that you'd better play Metro 2033 to enjoy Last Light. I played it in the wrong order, so I didn't enjoy the story that much. Btw, if you enjoy the story in games, try books (Metro 2033 and 2034), they have an even better story and there's less shooting monsters, and more exploring the post-apocalyptic world.
It looks amazing. Guns feel right. This is based on the books and manages to convey the atmosphere of them. Get it, you won't regret it.
I finished Sacred 2 for the very first time a few days ago. It is very promising in the beginning, although some interesting classes from the original were cut out (so long, vampiress). After some hours you understand that the world is much bigger than it has any right or point to be. After that the game becomes very tedious. The combat is still cool and manage to entertain you like it did in the first part. The visuals can be appealing at times. All in all, the first game was better.
The best adventure I've seen in my entire life – not only in games, but also in books, in movies, anywhere! This is why games are the future of story-telling. I strongly believe that every developer has to play The Witcher 3 before starting his own game. Not to understand that you can't do nothing even close to this masterpiece, but to see that amazing, out of the box games can be done without following stupid modern trends and still be praised and profitable. This game redefined the cRPG genre and I can't wait for CDPR to drop Cyberpunk 2077.
This game demonstrates that there's always something new that can be done in gamedev, even when "new" means copying visual style from retro cartoons and add some amazing jazz ensemble tracks. It is fun, fast and difficult, the small jokes are great, and the gameplay itself is surprisingly very solid, so you will enjoy it as a game, not just a piece of art.
I loved it even when it was still an alpha. I love the great story and combat systems. The latter is very similar to the original title: It is turn-based, you have lots of skills that can be combined for deadly synergy. Character building allow you to addopt different approaches – from stealthy to straightforward sword fighting to magic and everything in between. The main strong point in the game is story and it provides great interactivity with the world based on your choices, race, and even some skills. Everything makes up for a great replayability level – I played through it three times and each time I founf something new and exciting. All in all, this is one of the greatest modern RPGs that have its roots in old classics and doesn't fall into senility.
This game delivers a truly unique experience. It is rich with Norse Mythology, it has a compelling story, amazing visuals, and some of the best sound design in gaming. The combat is quite simple, yet works very effective, there is a variety of moves from different strikes, to blocks and dodging. Every encounter you'll mix them and you can come up with your own fighting style. The system requirements are modest enough, and it looks incredible. On the whole, Ninja Theory made a beautiful game and I can't wait for a sequel of some sort.
This is the best open world RPG in line with The Elder Scrolls series. It is not perfect for everyone, but within the genre of RPG it is a shining example of how games should be made – starting from the character creator to to the combat system. The gameplay is amazing with fast-paced fights and diverse enemies. There is a well-made story, so you won't feel purposelessly cutting through enemies. There are beautiful surroundings that will take your breath away in some moments. The amount of content is stupendous. Being an RPG fan you don't want to miss this great game.
Divinity: Original Sin is one of the greatest cRPGs ever released. It is great in each and every respect from the overall visuals to the soundtrack to the combat system to the writing. It brought me hours of entertainment and Enhanced Edition was a great excuse to return to the game.
I didn't enjoy the original game at all and nearly forced myself to try the enhanced edition of it. And I was amazed that it felt almost like a completely different game. The game is fully voiced now. There are extra quests. The previous writing was refined. Companions now have serious backgrounds. The lore now feels very integral. The graphics was improved (although it was already good). The UI got refined. So, if you didn't enjoy the original game, I really really recommend trying Enhanced Edition. To me it felt like the best enhanced edition of any game I'd seen before.
This is a third-person RPG where you play as the "arisen" that can control "pawns" - the guys who look and act like humans, except they don't really die. So one of the key things in the game is to build a cool party with synergy, so you will have to try various pawns. I managed to build quite a neat party and this makes every fight with monster amazing and satisfying. Btw, monsters are gorgeous here, and the ability to climb a monster to destroy its key parts to take it down is epic, especially when you are hanging on the wing of some griffon and it starts ascending in the sky. Clearly, combat is very well done and it is perhaps the strongest point of the game. You can also see some Japanese influence here from some games like Soul Calibur, etc. I like this game, it has its flaws (the story was lame to me), but I'd recommend it anyways.
This is a unique game, and Ninja Theory cared for every detail they made. It is original, creative, beautiful. Still, it is not for everyone, it is weird. It blends a walking sim and a fighting game. It is simple, I mean, it is not complex, there are few things you do. There's no crafting, no collecting items, no leveling. You just walk, hear the voices whispering the story, solve puzzles, and, when the time comes, draw your sword. The story is very deep and it caught me from the very beginning. It might be even disturbing because it roots in psychological illnesses and fears. I highly recommend playing in headphones, because it uses binaural sounds very effectively to place you in the surroundings. If you like this kind of game, Hellblade is a gem. You will enjoy every minute in its terrifyingly beautiful world.
